AUGUST EVENT PLOTTING ❀
CONTENT WARNINGS: SUICIDE, GORE (let us know if we missed something and should update this!)
For the ease of mod-processing, please KEEP ALL QUESTIONS TO THE MOD QUESTIONS HEADER. The other sub-headers are for SIGN-UPS ONLY.
☆ We don't expect anyone to be helpless during these events, either! Characters are also welcome to escape! They are being held in underwater caverns with breathable air pockets. Keep in mind, as characters have their powers suppressed during this part, they'll need to use ingenuity and determination to get out! Some things to consider: how will they navigate the underwater tunnels and caverns? How will they get out of the restraints? Will they try to distract or overpower their captors, is anyone planning on staying behind as a sacrifice? Is there a way to use the empathic connection against their enemies?

❀ THE EVENTS
FLOODING & POWER OUTAGE
Over the course of August, the flooding escalates. The monsoons worsen without relief, and the basecamp suffers moderate flooding. (It's clear, and many NPCs will note, that the flooding would have been worse if so much attention hadn't gone to fixing those sinkholes.) The flooding will soil some of the food stores, leading to MEAL RATIONING. Characters who aren't doing manual labor will receive one meal per day, and characters who are will receive two. Feel free to share!
The electrical grid also gets fully overloaded. The rolling blackouts turn into one, long BLACKOUT that leaves the base dark and mired in standing water. Nothing connected to the grid will come online. Vidar has donated his Gundam's core, but there are talks about whether or not it should be hooked to the grid to supplement or saved for the Desalination Plant.
The power loss also hit the DESALINATION PLANT, which means that what little water is coming through the pipes is non-potable. Early water restrictions come in the form of 'save water, shower together' messages — though little 3-minute showers aren't exactly the stuff of romance — but after the grid problem is diagnosed, there will be no running water in the basecamp. Emergency water rations for drinkable water are strictly limited, and while engineering is busy, the aid station folks are looking at collecting rainwater and neutralizing acid to make it drinkable.
A few notes:
THE DESALINATION PLANT
Childe assembles a mission to head for the desalination plant. This will largely be made up of Hatchlings, because the rest of the basecamp have been doing their assigned jobs locally for years.
Inside the desalination plant's control room, participants in the mission will come across BODIES OF ADAMANT SURVIVORS killed by gunshots. The SOLE SURVIVOR cannot be spoken to or reasoned with — she simply repeats the phrase 'ran out of bullets.'
It will take 3-5 DAYS OF DANGEROUS MECHANICAL WORK TO RESTORE POWER. The darkened plant is maze-like, and characters may get lost or suffer injury.
A few notes:
DARK WATER
A strange new species of alien appears at the Desalination Plant and kidnaps a number of the Hatchlings who came to help. Those who are kidnapped are brought back to an oceanside cave full of these creepy, eyeless humanoids with piranha teeth. Kidnapped characters are held in dark underwater caverns, bound and — for those with powers — completely bereft of them. Characters are taken from the caverns by these creatures and brought to a secondary location, where they are subjected to tortures both physical and mental (by way of empathic projections). As these aliens are empaths, other characters may find themselves feeling what their fellows feel.

A few notes:
☆ The flooding has also damaged a section of the bunks, which means BUNKMATES. Hatchlings will be paired together. Feel free to comment under out BUNK BUDDIES header by the 21st to get assigned a randomized bunkmate, or choose your own!
☆ The floodwater seems to have washed in some kind of unusual pollen... Anyone who comes into direct skin contact with the flood water may risk, in addition to the skin irritation from our last log, a lowered inhibition that leads to brutal honesty. The world is your bartender-cum-therapist, and it's time to trauma dump!
☆ Any Hatchlings who want to help restore power OR help collect and neutralize acid rain should sign up under our FLOODING AND POWER OUTAGE header by the 21st.

A few notes:
☆ Hatchlings may choose whether or not to go, but if you OOCly want your character to go and they wouldn't ICly, you may say Childe persuaded them. She won't be forcing anyone. Anyone who doesn't go will be staying behind to help at the basecamp.
☆ If your character is going on the Desalination Plant mission, they will not be able to sign up under the Power/Outages header. Please bear in mind that your character can only be in one place at a time!

A few notes:
☆ No sign-up is needed to be kidnapped!
☆ However, hatchlings who aren't kidnapped may need to stage a rescue. We invite you to comment under the DARK WATER heading if you plan for your character participate in a rescue. Please provide a description of your characters' skills and approach to this task.

❀ PLOTTING
We have provided the following form to help you get started plotting! These forms should be posted as their own top-level comments (in direct reply to the entry). Please save the mod-posted sub-headings for SIGN-UPS ONLY.

1) Tampering with the survivor's mind may result in further information being available, yes.
2) They will be able to send messages, but they may not come through immediately, or they may be garbled or go to the wrong people (to whatever extent players wish to play with.) This is to facilitate an ease of communication between those that wish to remain behind without cutting them out of the action, while still providing an element of conflict and uncertainty to those that wish to utilize it.
