OOC intro/mingle posts in Ethyraia serve a dual function as CR memes for current players. The hope is that this will encourage current players to scan through and greet our new players. Take this opportunity to get to know your fellow players, plan hatching log threads, check-in regarding the keeping of TDM threads (which can be made game canon), find plot hooks, and plan for future CR.

INFO: Sexy bisexual pirate man with love of pretty things is charming on the outside, confused and alone on the inside. For some reason stealing shiny things doesn’t fix the hole anymore! Growing up (and PTSD) sucks.
SKILLS: piracy, diplomacy, banter and wit, navigation (manual and technological), modding ships, rare artifacts. he makes really great tea because he's a snob about it. he has healing magic and pirate magic (vanish, decoy, etc.)
AREAS OF INTEREST: He’s got some obvious skills for piracy and exploration which I think is how he'll cope, but I’m really interested in how losing found family and having just watched the impact of the wrong people in power nearly ruin three countries has impacted his own identity and who he wants to be. He’s got a brewing desire to lead that’s at odds with his loner behavior in his late teens.
PLANS/GOALS: I’m most interested in Balthier finding his place in this new world and realizing he has the opportunity to reinvent himself again, or double down on parts he likes. He also probably needs to process grief from the first time he lost his whole life. I don’t have anything super specific in mind outside of this.
CR PREFERENCES: Anything's good. I really like found family, and Balthier is the kind of person who will talk to anyone. I'm down for romantic, but he's demi and slow to trust so it'd take awhile (bi tho so all genders welcome).
MISC HOOKS:
-Balthier ran away from home and changed his name due to a falling out with his family; he’s sympathetic to other people with situations like this
-Balthier really likes aesthetics and nice things
-He loves navigation equipment and flying ships
-Balthier has a soft spot for mentoring/watching out for younger people
-Balthier has a complex relationship to power; his dad’s obsession with it put him off it for awhile, but helping his team restore the Princess of Dalmasca to her throne has forced him to question this black and white thinking.
-Balthier is witty and has a sense of humor. He enjoys observing people and likes to have contacts from all walks of life so will do fine with shadier people or people with weaker/messier social skills.
-He is, at the end of the day, a pirate and will do pirate things.

bruno would probably like / relate to balthier a lot tbh as he's also been torn away from his found family after trying to fix his home country from the inside out. also doing crimes. he was raised by a fisherman and enjoys boats so he'd be fascinated to hear about airships also... tell him of your cool fantasy pirate lifestyle.

I think Balthier might initially be put off by Bruno's strong moral compass and also really admire it. he's been so jaded on a sense of justice and morals that it would probably be good for him. i like the idea of them talking about boats versus airships too -- i don't think Balthier's been on many boats, which could be hilarious given that's how most people associate pirates.
Balthier has also seen some weird ass shit so he's probably chill with Bruno's zipper weirdness. He does have Mist (supernatural) sensitivity so we could play with the ghost.

Balthier's piracy partner of several years was a magic using non-human outsider named Fran, who many people thought he was romantic with and I'm playing as very close platonic relationship (and now lost found family that he hasn't processed). He's incredibly respectful of women (even prefers working with them) and does well with powerful othered types. Fran's magic was a lot stronger than his and he was happy to be the support. He likes to call himself the leading man but is much happier in a teamwork setting.
I feel like he and Nina could potentially have some overlap with that dynamic, and I am enjoying that Nina doesn't necessarily expect that. He also forgets other people don't behave this way and that his gender behavior may be atypical.
