◣ STATE OF THE GAME - AUGUST ◢

STATE OF THE GAME ❀
Each month, we will provide general updates on adjustments the mods are making to help the game thrive as we see things develop. We wish to see the game develop organically and to be responsive to player needs and receptive to alterations that will improve player experience.

These posts will also act as reminders about any housekeeping items that need player response, deadlines, etc.

Additionally, State of the Game posts are a great place for players to ask miscellaneous clarifying questions; we'll make ourselves available to turn these around relatively quickly whenever possible.

❀ ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • We have updated our ACTIVITY CHECK and HIATUS pages to clarify a few items ... again! These grew out of our last SOTG post. The AC and Hiatus pages both now make reference to the appropriate means of checking in for hiatused players and the function/frequency of activity exemption for hiatuses (including retroactive), especially as it regards to alternating characters whom AC threads are with. The Activity Check and BONUS AC pages have also been updated to better clarify how bonus AC works.

  • Our ACTIVITY CHECK page has also been updated to remove the requirement that submitted threads be with different characters. Given the current size of the game, we felt this was untenable for many players and an unnecessary hindrance on player retention.

  • In addition, for the purposes of player recruitment and retention, we have REMOVED OUR CAST AND PLAYER CAPS for the time being. Should we see a need for these again in the future, we will reinstate them with at least a one app period warning.

  • We have also changed our NEW CANONS application/update rule to TWO WEEKS after the wide release of new canon material.

  • As you may have noticed with Ashley Porter's post, we are continuing to evaluate how to increase NPC engagement while keeping the tag load for our NPCing mods manageable. We'll try to schedule these windows into our Calendar post from now on.

  • We will be adjusting the dates on future Hatching & Event logs to better align with weekend times when it seems that our players are most able to tag.

  • Based on your feedback, our August "mini-event" log reflects what you can expect hatching logs to look like in the future! The hatching prompt has been down-graded and mini-events/updated prompts will take the foreground on these. In months without events, we will ensure that hatching logs have more substance to them in the form of additional prompts and plot hooks.

  • Our CALENDAR page now reflects bi-monthly mod-posted memes! Our first will be in September. We will post these in event-light months to help facilitate more downtime CR.

  • We want to encourage players who have been utilizing our PLOT ENGAGEMENT page to share the information that they receive from us widely! A lot of plot details have been dispensed in response to the small player plots that people have been working on, and we believe it would help facilitate larger player plots if people began collaborating on this information. The network is a great tool for this, but players are more than welcome to make OOC posts in [community profile] raiamemes as well to suggest a more subtle means of distributing information.

  • ❀ MOD FEEDBACK

We want to make this a place that players can ask generic questions to facilitate their non-event CR and plans. However, we also want this to a place that players can provide suggestions on how our process can better support your gameplay.

Below are a list of things we would like player feedback on:
  • We would like to encourage more player plots that open up more widely to larger groups of players, particularly for off-months where there is no event log. How can we help support your use of the plot engagement page to run smaller expeditions, invent creatures and plant effects, and otherwise plan for player-driven events that can help complement the mod-run events?

  • How did we feel about the timing of the OOC plotting post for the event?

  • Let us know if you see any places we missed making our updates regarding caps and new canons!

  • If there are specific aspects of the setting, survival tropes, etc. — things that you would like to see in future events/hatching logs, feel free to request them here.

  • ❀ ACTIVITY REMINDER

This is your reminder that activity check closes on August 31st at 11:59 EST. All activity must be dated and submitted before this time to our STATIC ACTIVITY CHECK POST.

    ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
You must submit a combination of TWO of any of the following types of activity:

☆ A log of 5 or more comments
☆ A network thread of 10 or more comments
☆ An open post in the network or log community (including an open top-level on a mod-posted log) where the player made a reasonable effort to reply**

Players may mix and match the above to any effect, as long as it meets the two proof requirement (e.g., 10 network comments and 5 log comments, or one open log and 10 network comments). "Reasonable effort to reply" to an open thread is defined as responses to some or most of the replies accrued on an open thread.

As a reminder, BONUS AC can be submitted once during any three-month period. It can also be done at any time during the month. Bonus AC provides the opportunity for: plot/story tidbits, interesting weapons or items tooled by the mods for your characters, an item from the character's home or an in-game power or ability. If there are, please let us know.

    GENERAL NOTES:
☆ There will be no AC warning list — this post is your warning.
☆ Activity sweeps and drops will be announced in the OOC Intro/CR Meme and in the hatching log to facilitate plotting of those players'/characters' close CR. (This cycle will include drops from May as well.)
☆ Dropped characters disappear, but their belongings are left behind. If you have questions about a character's inventory left behind, you can approach the mods. We have all the apps recorded.

To spare you a question comment *and* a feedback comment, I’ll just say here that this looks good. These are pretty much the suggestions I would have made, or did make.

One thing I’m a little confused about though! (And, tbh, I was also confused last month and should have asked then.) This comment talked about loosening August AC, back in July. I’ve never been sure whether you meant July (when it was pretty slow because there was no event) or August. Just thought it would be good to clarify!

Overall this looks great! I think the mods have been doing a great job being reflective and updating us. I appreciate the AC changing to allow same people, and I think the cap removals make a lot of sense.

I like the OOC set-up, but for me personally, it still felt somewhat fast. I haven't been able to tag in this week yet because work was really busy, and now feel "behind".

I am still new to dwrp so I don't know if this is a me thing or not, but I feel like I'm personally missing some of the after-processing for events. For example, this next one has three or four BIG things (electricity down, team going out, kidnapping and torture, rescues, etc). When I tag in late, I feel (internal) pressure to go quickly which sometimes leads to not jumping in, or I want to process what happens with my character in Situation A before Situation C. I'm not 100% sure what the fix is (the "off" months having more around basecamp prompts seems potentially really helpful for this) but just wanted to reflect.
