balthier and steve actually have some overlap in that they're very displaced from their upbringing (balthier was an aristocrat who ran away and became a magic using sky pirate) and both follow their moral compass over the rules.

that said I'm super curious how Steve would handle a literal pirate, and how Balthier would handle someone who is a lot less guarded on the surface than he is. I think once they got to know each other they'd probably be bros.
