Balthier is not quite jerk with heart of gold, but he's definitely witty and reserved with a good heart and slow trust. He also likes to exude authority and considers himself the leading man even though he often supports strong women and works behind the scenes. And he loves to banter. He also has a soft spot for overzealous young hero types ("young" he's 23 but thinks he's 35), even as they irritate the shit out of him. He will go clean up their messes because he cares. He's also a former pirate and very comfortable with going with the flow in tough or low resource situations, and just got off supporting the princess to save the world.
