[ Maybe they will. Nina had been so desperately happy to know of this one's existence, whether the power was used well or not hadn't surfaced. All they saw was the Fold being destroyed. ]

[ The Fold is helpful, to Fjerda, keeping their enemy divided. But even Matthias agrees it makes him uneasy to think about. A long shadow sea, full of unspeakable horrors. Things that can die, certainly, but it would expend great effort to kill them all. ]

Is that what Nina says?

[ He didn't kill the captives as the captain had ordered, before Djel raised the storm. It's not a decision that weighs him down: it saved his life and gave him Nina. Who speaks very well of him, but that's because she wants to. It's her way. ]

[ He glances sidelong at her, sensing the wince. ]

I am no longer required to kill. [ But he can't bite out the word deserter, that's too much shame, and not for Alina's eyes. ] As for why I'm here now, it is to see you. I will watch, and that is all.
