Balthier just got out of a war and his primary weapon is guns. He was captain and defacto head engineer on his ship, which he basically rebuilt, so I feel like they'd have some in common.

He also can use magic and his world is vaguely 1700s. These days he's learning more toward diplomacy, so also some places for some friction.
